This piece comes from a place of exhaustion—that familiar feeling when you ask yourself, Why does it always rain on me?—a question famously asked in the song by Travis.* It’s about those moments when life feels unfair, as if the universe is piling on more than you can handle. I wanted to capture that sense of frustration, sadness, and loneliness, but also the quiet strength that keeps us moving forward.
The heavy colors—deep blues, grays, and harsh contrasts—create a stormy, moody atmosphere. Abstract lines streak across the surface like relentless rain, representing the way challenges can hit us from all directions, sudden and uncontrollable.
In the middle of it all stands a figure, barely noticeable, blending into the chaos. It’s not meant to be obvious, just like resilience often isn’t. This isn’t a triumphant figure—it’s someone tired and weathered but still there, still holding on. The rough textures and layered paint reflect the ups and downs of internal struggles, with messy, unresolved areas sitting alongside smoother parts.
There are small flashes of unexpected color (gold) cutting through the darkness—tiny glimpses of hope, the kind that feel distant but remind you they exist. They’re not promises, but possibilities.
Rain on Me is a visual representation of feeling overwhelmed yet persistent. It’s about the questions we ask when we’re tired of life’s setbacks and the quiet determination that keeps us from giving in, even when we’re drenched in uncertainty.
