Medium: pencil, charcoal & oil pastels on 45x45 cm pressed cardboard
I use abstraction in my work because, to me, it represents the connection between the seen and unseen aspects of the subject. If the subject is human, I want viewers to sense the story of the person depicted. My use of lines and colors represents the subject's story, and I hope viewers will find similarities within themselves.
The name "Rachael" and my inspiration for this portrait come from the 1982 film Blade Runner. I remember being fascinated by her character after watching the movie; she was full of mysteries, combining organic and inorganic elements within herself, which I found incredibly intriguing. After completing this painting, it instantly named itself: "Rachael." It is painted on my 45x45 collected cardboard to contribute to environmental efforts by transforming a potential piece of trash into art. It fits the subject well, doesn’t it, considering it was inspired by a film about the future?
